Sonic Pulses Carry Shirel Sara Golan’s Memory On “Hands Up”

A date can become an instrument of memory. Tel Aviv producer Sonic Pulses released "Hands Up" on the birthday of Shirel Sara Golan.

Golan, the artist’s sister, was lost during the Nova events. That decision gives this electronic album a grave, human centre before a bassline or arpeggio enters the frame. It asks dance music to carry mourning without abandoning movement.

"Hands Up" turns pain into rhythm, duration and company. Its title may suggest collective release, yet the record’s stated purpose points toward an intimate act of remembrance.

Sonic Pulses comes to "Hands Up" after 15 years within Tel Aviv nightlife, a setting built on late hours, repetition and the social force of a room in motion.

The artist also describes recovery from addiction and C-PTSD, followed by a year spent in self-imposed studio isolation. That history matters here because it places the album between public energy and private repair.

"Hands Up" is the artist’s third major release of 2026, but its pace does not read as a race for attention. Instead, it presents a producer using a familiar club vocabulary to hold experiences that seldom sit easily inside celebratory spaces.

The release’s memorial charge gives its electronic language an unusual gravity. House, techno and trance have long offered structures for physical release, from patient builds to sustained repetition, and this record works within that lineage.

However, the stated focus on missing someone and reaching beyond death keeps the dance-floor impulse from becoming simple uplift. A memorial inscription does something similar.

It fixes a name and a date, yet it cannot contain the life that continues around them. "Hands Up" makes that gap part of its purpose, asking rhythm to coexist with absence rather than disguise it.

The album draws from house, techno and trance, with The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Jan Blomqvist, Marsh and the broader trance scene named among its influences.

Its declared palette includes grooving basslines, rich harmonies, arpeggios, guitar work and melancholy lyrics. Those ingredients suggest an architecture that values propulsion but also leaves room for reflection.

Bass can pull a body forward; harmony can suspend that pull; an arpeggio can make time feel segmented and restless. In that sense, HANDS UP frames its electronic detail as emotional pacing rather than decoration.

The album’s interest lies in how those forces might meet without cancelling each other.

Sonic Pulses made most of the record in a professional home studio. The producer handled much of its effects work, mixing and sound design.

Then the artist sent stems to a professional mixer. Zohar Bartov mixed and mastered the album, while Juliata Cohen, Yam Gronic and Myia May provide vocals.

That division gives the project a clear sense of authorship, but does not treat the singers as ornaments. Cohen’s role carries particular weight: she sings the third track about her former relationship with the artist.

Meanwhile, several voices open the record beyond a single interior monologue, fitting an album that seeks connection.

“Where Can I Find” addresses Shirel Sara Golan through a cry toward the sky, asking where she is. It is the album’s clearest stated encounter with loss, longing and a hoped-for bond beyond death.

The plainness of that question matters. Grief does not always arrive as polished language, and electronic form can give repetition to what speech cannot settle.

Here, the title itself reads like an unanswered call. It also places "Hands Up" in a tradition of nocturnal electronic work where the beat does not solve sorrow, but gives it a place to remain present.

The album’s story gains force from its refusal to separate care from craft. Effects, vocals, guitar and programmed motion serve a record born from mourning.

The artist’s nightlife experience also keeps the work aware of communal listening. Sonic Pulses played the album at a friend’s wedding and received a strong response.

That episode places these songs near another ritual of gathering. Weddings and memorials mark different turns in a life, yet each relies on witnesses.

Perhaps "Hands Up" offers this: private loss can enter a shared room without losing its tenderness.

For listeners seeking a 2026 Tel Aviv electronic album review with personal stakes, "Hands Up" offers house, techno and trance directed toward remembrance.

It does not promise closure. Instead, it gives Shirel Sara Golan a date, a dedication and a continuing presence inside the record’s movement.

When a beat carries a name that cannot answer, what kind of togetherness can it still create?
