An uplifting intro of overlapping chanting voices crescendoes into a medley of thought-provoking lyrics and outside-of-the-box instrumental work in Kirby Lyle's new single, "The Thinking Man."
Lyle, a Nashville-based artist with a thirty-plus-year career as a multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter, has performed all over the world, from Carnegie Hall to the Cathedral of Notre Dame. His passion for artistic collaboration led him to immerse himself in the whirlwind Nashville music scene for the past five years.
For Lyle, music is a healing force that has been vital to his sobriety journey, and a way for him to channel his thoughts about relevant social issues and his hopes for a better future.
His new indie folk tune, "The Thinking Man," sets the tone for Change Is Hard, Lyle's "protest" EP, scheduled for release in January 2026. Change Is Hard, his second solo EP after Down In Nashville - Songs From The Rounds (2024), is an "album for those who yearn, strive for equality, seize the day, and mourn our collective failures."
Lyle's genre-defying music style, which draws inspiration from everything from 60s big band to 90s pop, is "written for everyday people struggling through extraordinary times" and intended to be a "call to action."
"The brave man loves / The brave man, he shows grace / The brave man is healing the traumas that we face," Lyle sings in "The Thinking Man," accompanied by lively banjo, fiddle, and saxophone, as well as a lilting horn section that adds a flourish to the song's ending, leaving listeners longing for what else is in store on Change Is Hard.
The single's cover artwork, designed by Lyle, features the Progress Pride Flag, a well-known symbol of inclusivity, highlighting his message to "choose love, grace and logic over blind following and deception" in today's divisive world.
Lyle will be performing in Nashville this fall.
