The highly competitive program brings aspiring orchestral musicians nationwide for a month o… | By ahilt21 on April 23, 2025 | Yimeng Xu received national recognition as one of two pianists chosen for the National Orchestral Institute and Festival this summer in Baltimore, Maryland. The highly competitive program brings aspiring orchestral musicians nationwide for a month of professional exploration. Chosen through a rigorous audition process, these young artists will perform with the National Symphony Orchestra in Maryland and Washington, DC. Ms. Xu has been accepted into the DMA Collaborative Piano Program at the University of Michigan with a full assistantship and stipend. Yimeng completed one year of Doctoral studies at the University of Maryland studying under Professor Rita Sloan after completing her Master's degree in Collaborative piano at UMD. Professor Ms. Sloan will retire at the end of spring 2025. For the third summer in a row, Yimeng has been awarded a full scholarship as one of the young professional collaborative pianists at Brevard Music Center in North Carolina. While at the University of Nebraska Omaha, Yimeng chose to study Collaborative Piano under Professor Haneline for all four years.
