Lee Trent Remains Grounded With Introspective New EP 'In Presence'

By Anna Odom on February 7, 2025

Dedication and exploration of one's craft comes in many forms, and Lee Trent is one such artist who emulates such traits. Steeped in the world of songwriting, composing, arranging, producing, and being a multi-instrumentalist, he's not cutting any corners.

His latest sonic triumph comes in the form of his new self-produced 6-track EP, In Presence, which greeted listeners January 24th, 2025.

The new album delivers a selection of calm, sparse arrangements and bursts of reverbed-out guitars with introspective lyrics. Trent's intimate vocals are central to the sonic landscapes, which tilts between both dreamy and grounded. The lead single, "The Dashboard Incident," was recorded with Nashville indie rockers INNER VIEW, and offers his signature storytelling lyrics that marry with swelling orchestration and guitars to create a bright & flowy DIY feel.

"It reflects a near-miss experience from my past, when I almost drove off the road due to intoxication and negative thoughts," Trent states about the track. "That moment of self-realization marked the start of my personal transformation. It's about growth and new beginnings that everyone can relate to, especially now."

Throughout In Presence, Trent's eclectic, dynamic sound is on full display. He reconciles with rejection on tracks like "Warm Winter Collision", with Americana grooves and reflective lyricism. Another standout track is "Abrupt", which showcases gorgeous guitars that invite the listener with a hopeful tone. "Though the lights will fade away / The love and hope you have never goes away," he sings. He wrote the string arrangements on this track along with "The Dashboard Incident."

Trent's journey is one marked by tragedy and transformation. After the loss of his father in 2017, he moved to Nashville to pursue music and delve into what feeds his soul. Since then, he's gone on to work with artists such as Morgan Wade, Jay Webb, and IV & The Strange. His debut solo releases included a pair of lo-fi indie rock singles in "Pessimism" and "Optimism" in 2022.

Formerly known as Trent Woods, his passion for music began as a child surrounded by his uncle's blues band. After watching his uncle play harmonica and his brother playing bass, he picked up a guitar and started to write songs of his own.

In Presence embodies very real and difficult experiences of Trent's, but with a palpable sense of warmth and resilience. His ever-evolving artistry offers a raw, personal narrative of suffering and transformation, grounded in musical expression.
