Singer and multi-instrumentalist songwriter Justin Han, better known as Actve Captve (pronounced "actve"), is behind the indie-pop/funk project.
Music that invites the listener to dance and lyrics that convey tales of self-acceptance, accepting the anguish of your past and allowing yourself to be who you are two things that make his music stand out.
Before joining a rock band in high school as a keyboardist, Justin was trained as a classical pianist in California. Drums, which were louder than any other symphonic instrument, attracted him and he learned to play after the band's drummer left.
A frequent performer throughout his undergraduate years, he honed his craft in a wide variety of live musical settings, including blues and jazz clubs, vineyards, pubs, and even the university's gospel choir.
After graduation, he came to New York City to work on Madison Avenue during the day and perform with musicians at night in clubs. It was via these experiences that he was exposed to the vast world of music production and recording facilities.
The New Authentic was developed as a result of his collaborations with producers on original songs that he played throughout the city.
He relocated to Austin, Texas, in 2018 to concentrate on live performance, only to find himself cooped up inside with the rest of the globe until he was able to go out (TBD). As a result, he embarked on a journey of self-discovery that fundamentally altered his connection with music and gave rise to the moniker "Actve Captve," which he chose as a proclamation of surrender and triumph over the fears and doubts that haunt him and are now integral to his creative process.
