Dunedin electronic rock duo Robots in Love have returned with their bruising new single, “Cease and Desist.” Comprising Elenor Rayner and Alex Burchell, the Aotearoa/New Zealand project operates along the jagged fault line where modern metalcore meets dark, industrial club music, and their latest track is a suffocating dispatch from the grip of runaway limerence.

The song charts that alarming threshold where a simple infatuation curdles into an all-consuming cognitive siege. Built on a bed of deep, heavily distorted rhythmic patterns that judder with nervous syncopation, the soundscape never allows the listener to settle.

Sudden rhythmic lurches crash into punishing drops, while soaring, emotionally frayed lead lines struggle to surface above the low-end turbulence. The friction mirrors the mental fatigue of intrusive loops: the rational brain desperately pulling the emergency brake while the emotional engine continues to redline.

By framing toxic attachment as an injunction served against one’s own unraveling mind, Rayner and Burchell expose a raw, claustrophobic nerve. When an obsession demands everything you are, what actually survives the eviction?
