Sweat, Swagger, and Synths: Desperate Electric Drops “News Flash!”

Desperate Electric, the genre-defying power disco duo out of Butte, Montana, dive headfirst into an intoxicating cocktail of rhythm and human vulnerability on their new studio album, "News Flash!". Kayti Korte and Ben Morris are tapping into a bizarre yet flawless universe where late-night romantic nostalgia meets a relentlessly confident dance-pop bounce. The entire record is an exploration of sexual liberation and escapism that feels remarkably alive. They invite us into a sweaty room blending the soul-drenched warmth of Marvin Gaye with the mechanical pulse of Daft Punk, asking everyone to drop their emotional baggage entirely at the heavy velvet doors.

This release thrives on tension specifically, the pull between seizing absolute control of your carnal impulses and letting everything simply crash down around you. You hear that slick swagger dripping from “I Control The Vibe,” an energetic slice of deep house where nocturnal escapism turns into hypnotic, club-ready dominance. It practically pulls you onto the floor by your collar. Yet, they effortlessly strip the bravado away on the contemporary R&B groove of “Sexy $hit.” Here, the pacing slows to a sultry crawl. It zeroes in on the raw, deeply romantic process of tearing your emotional walls apart in private. You discover a totally different sort of connection, far away from the glittering crowd, which eventually spills into the hazy, flirtatious chillwave of “Yours or Mine?”.

Working alongside collaborators Emmet Ore, Tanner Fruit, and Nathan Crawford, the duo constructs these towering, highly danceable atmospheres without abandoning their messy core. You get pure, unabashed nightlife royalty on the electro-funk bounce of “Disco Daddy,” where playful arrogance commands the room. What genuinely fascinates me, however, is the severe sonic left turn of “Long Way Down.” Nestled among euphoric modern funk cuts like “Good Direction” and the chaotic, rumor-fueled theatricality of the electro-pop title track, “News Flash!”, we sink into a heavy, distorted descent of alt-rock shoegaze. It fully embraces the inevitable breakdown of fake social personas, swelling into a beautifully cynic wall of sound. The illusion shatters, completely resetting your palate before the intense synth-pop fatalism of “Wildfire - Extended Version” hits.

These eleven tracks perpetually push the momentum forward, challenging you to sweat out the heavy panic of modern existence. The music captures that distinctly bittersweet thrill of chasing pleasure while your daily worries burn quietly in the background. Are we actually achieving liberation beneath all these flashing strobe lights, or simply finding a beautifully constructed place to hide?
