Emerging originally from the 1980s scene, they bypass safe studio construction for something fiercely organic. You can hear the unbridled kinetic energy pouring out of Marc Soucy on composer duties and keyboards, his complex arrangements spiraling outward while Jeff Carano binds the frenzy together on bass guitar and bass synthesizer. The rhythmic bedrock is propelled by Ray Lavigne, who tackles drums, percussion, and xylophone with dizzying precision. Accompanied by guest Al Korosy on guitar, the resulting sound is an abrasive, joyous adrenaline rush. Tracks like “Mayhem In Antartica - Live” and “Charlie Backwards - Live” plunge straight into electronic chiptune chaos. They evoke the sweaty palms of a climactic video game boss battle, managing to sound simultaneously triumphant and utterly frantic.

I found my heart racing during the sudden stops and jarring time signatures of “No This Isn't Jazz Either - Live” and “Broken Latin - Live”. It is a musical tightrope walk that threatens to collapse under its own heavy complexity, yet it miraculously holds steady. Then, seemingly on a whim, the group leans into the bouncing vintage TV-funk of “Clem's Cakewalk - Live”, explores retro-futuristic synth-pop on “The City - Live”, or dives into the epic, sweeping classical scale runs of “Turn For The Worst - Live”.
Curiously, the album interrupts its instrumental marathon for two sharply poignant vocal detours. “Accelerator - Live” veers sharply into abrasive hardcore punk, delivering an aggressive warning about the inevitable ruin that follows a reckless, disconnected lifestyle. Even more affecting is “Actual Snow - Live”. Wrapped up in an upbeat ska and post-punk rhythm, the song tackles the isolating irony of achieving your wildest ambitions, only to realize the one person you want to share the victory with is absent. The hollow ache of that lonely success rings out loudly through the wailing interludes.
