Multi-Faceted Artist & Performer Ava Della Pietra Talks New Single '3am', Go-To Karaoke Song, & More

Rising artist Ava Della Pietra continues to make strides in her young career.

After getting her start on Broadway in School of Rock and Les Misérables, Della Pietra has worked to build what is turning out to be an impressive career in entertainment. At just 20, the New York-born artist has singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and performer all on her resume.

Still academically involved despite all this, she balances studying biology and music theory in a combined program at Harvard-Berklee. Alongside her pursuit of a degree, she continues to roll out new pop releases, drawing listeners in with her storytelling abilities.

Della Pietra's latest single, "3am," reflects a time of personal stress that transformed into a moment of reflection for her, and broadened her emotional capacity. The tune is backed with simple production, vulnerable vocals, and will serve as a stand-out moment in her journey as an independent artist.

We got to chat with Della Pietra to learn more about the new single and what's to come.

Can you walk us through the process of writing your new single, "3AM?" Was there a specific event that inspired it?

I'm a bit of a night owl, so I was up late trying to make a decision when a friend told me to just "take the night and think it over." I loved that line, so I grabbed my phone and recorded a quick melody and lyric idea that eventually became the chorus. The next day I came back to it and wrote the rest about a relationship that always seems to unravel in the early hours of the morning. The song is about hopeful denial. It's about knowing something probably isn't sustainable but choosing to believe it will be anyway. When the narrator says "nothing bad's gonna happen at 3AM," she's trying to convince herself that staying won't hurt, even though she knows better.

Is there a specific feeling that you envisioned listeners having as they listen to this song? How do you hope it resonates with them?

I hope people feel understood when they listen to it. A lot of us have experienced that push and pull where part of you knows something isn't right, but another part of you really wants to believe it could still work. If someone hears the song and feels a little less alone in that moment, that means a lot to me. I also hope it gives people a little bit of strength to trust themselves and their instincts.

Will "3am" be a part of a larger upcoming project, and if so, what other details can you share?

Yes! I'm actually releasing an acoustic version of "3am" very soon, which I'm really excited about because it gives the song a totally different feel. I've also been writing a lot of new music lately, and I'll be heading to LA soon to record more songs that will become part of an EP.

You've accomplished a lot in your young career thus far. What have been the most rewarding moments you often reflect on?

One of the most rewarding moments was performing in the original broadway cast of School of Rock. I was a swing covering six different roles, which was extremely fun and exhilarating. Sometimes I would go on in the middle of the show, so it really taught me how to work quickly on my feet.

What made it even more special was the group of people. The cast was incredible and I'm still good friends with so many of them! Being part of a show where we were actually playing instruments on stage was also really inspiring. I think that experience played a large role in encouraging me to start writing my own songs.

If you could open for any present-day artist on tour, who would it be and why?

Conan Gray. He's such an icon and so funny, and I love how specific and emotional his songwriting is. I would absolutely love to open for him and honestly I just want to be his best friend!

What is your go-to karaoke song?

"Shallow," especially if I have a duet partner.

What is your biggest musical goal for 2026 and what might fans expect?

I would love to record a full album this year. That's a big goal of mine, so stay tuned! I just want to keep writing a lot, trying new ideas, and doing more collaborations. TLDR: fans can definitely expect a lot of new music this year!
