Get To Know: The Cody Sisters Take Home 2025 FreshGrass Band Award On The Heels Of Latest Album 'All The Quiet People'

By Caia Cupolo on October 6, 2025

The Cody Sisters — made up of Maddie Cody, Megan Cody, and bassist Will Pavilonis — have spent their young lives immersed in the rich tradition of Colorado bluegrass.

Yet, their latest album, All The Quiet People, isn't a tribute to the past; it's a coming-of-age statement that leans hard into contemporary acoustic folk, Americana, and sophisticated songwriting. This collection feels less like a bluegrass album and more like a testament to the idea, as stated in the title track, that "all the quiet people have got a lot to say."

Throughout the 33-minute runtime, the trio demonstrates a thrilling level of instrumental mastery, showcasing why they've been a must-see touring act and won the acclaimed FreshGrass Band Award, which took place at the FreshGrass Foundation Festival in North Adams, Massachusetts this past September. Maddie's banjo and Megan's mandolin and guitar playing are precise, fluid, and often blending virtuosic picking with melodic sensibility -- and they're just getting started.

Tracks like "Mother Tongue," which was inspired by the work of Ocean Vuong, and the contemplative "Not My Thoughts" highlight their ability to weave tight sister harmonies around thoughtful, emotional lyrics. These songs are deeply personal, but aren't necessarily autobiographical, as the duo often pulls from fictional stories and novels.

The album's strength lies in its variety of sound while remaining in the genre of folk. For instance, "All the Quiet People" is a display of technical mandolin picking skills derived from their bluegrass roots, but it sits comfortably alongside "Thinking on the Road," a track that settles into a melancholy folk sound with more lush texture.

Another standout moment is "Archipelago," a livelier track on the record. The instrumentation is upbeat amidst bittersweet harmonies and lyrics from the sisters. The strong performance of the band on this song could exist without the lyrics; it is captivating and does not stay in one place for too long. But naturally, they included their signature harmonies adding another layer to this already energetic track.

The Cody Sisters have achieved a clean, warm production sound that allows every instrument to breathe and ensures their signature harmonies are the focal point. While their instrumentation is rooted in American acoustic tradition, the overall sound is refreshingly modern, incorporating elements of modern folk. All The Quiet People announces The Cody Sisters as not just rising bluegrass artists, but artists paving an interesting route for the future of folk -- and their recognition via the FreshGrass Band Award is a testament to that.
