PREMIERE: Dive Bar Honky Tonk Rockers Sparkle Carcass Keep It Chill On New Single 'Sippin' On A Cool One'

By Canaan Meyers on September 5, 2025

Coming back strong with what is arguably their catchiest single yet, Chicago honky tonk rockers Sparkle Carcass is straight and to the point on their new single "Sippin on a Cool One."

Opening with an infectious hook, "Sippin on a Cool One" will have listeners singing along like its an old favorite -- which it just might be for some. The song is in fact a deep cut cover of a seemingly forgotten Texas country band called Rollin' Country. With its simple themes and irresistible grooves, this is a number that fits right in for a good time at the bar with friends and strangers alike.

And the lyrics are no different.

When vocalist Cody Palmer sings "I left my home and my southern life / Dreamin' of the city lights," he joins the time-honored struggle in country music to get back to when things weren't so complicated. This no-nonsense songwriting will help listeners do the same.

"I used to work part time for UPS and I'd always listen to my buddy's weekly country radio show Country My Way on 105.5 FM Lumpen Radio where he'd play rare country records," says Palmer. "One day he put on this amazing record, 'Sippin on a Cool One,' from 1977 by some Texas band called Rollin' Country. I thought it was incredible, and being a DJ and record head, I tried to look that song up so I could buy a copy, but I just couldn't find anything anywhere about it."

Palmer was so enthralled with this deep cut track that he decided to bring it to the band to breathe new life into it, and the result is a damn catchy country rock banger that Rollin' Country would be proud of.

"Sippin on a Cool One" is also the lead single for the band's upcoming record, Maraschino Chevy. It will be the first record since their 2023 self-titled album: a record with just as much dive bar grit and energy as their new lead single. Much like "Sippin on a Cool One," the album will strike a balance between life's difficulties and hope, exploring lost love, divorce, and the joys of simply writing and playing music.

Maraschino Chevy is slated for an October 17th, 2025 release, with a follow-up single in "Rainy Day Head" out on September 26th. Their album release show will be held at The Hideout in Chicago on November 14th.

Traveling on the open road, Sparkle Carcass continues to give listeners a joy ride with their instantly accessible country sound. With nobody to stop them, they'll keep traveling to where the joys of music and cool ones take them.
