Premiere: Anna Dahl Stakes Her Claim In The Modern Country Pop Scene With Debut EP 'Little Bit Country'

By Ellie Baker on August 30, 2025

Paving her own way in the modern country pop scene is Madison, Wisconsin's own Anna Dahl, blending emotional storytelling with a bold and catchy sound.

Her new five-track EP, Little Bit Country -- which hit streaming barely 24 hours ago -- showcases her cowgirl style, vulnerable lyrics, and top knotch instrumentation.

The opening track, "Top Shelf," sets the tone immediately. Dahl describes it as "a playful take on a girls' night out," but it is more than just that. Her lyrics promote the importance of self-worth and values, emphasizing being true to yourself and not settling for less. This song leaves the listener feeling empowered to prioritize themself, and seek out only the best.

"Take Me to the Ritz" highlights Dahl's ear for arrangement, with tastefully incorporated instrumental breaks, allowing the electric guitar solos and intricate riffs to shine through. It is a perfect example of how she blends country, with the attitude of rock. This leads right into the twangy riff of track number three on the album, "C-O-W-B-O-Y." It hits with seductive Miranda Lambert-like charm, and is a classic case of falling for -- you guessed it -- a boot wearin', blue collar workin', brimmed hat wearin' cowboy.

True to its name, "Weight of a Heartbreak" lyrically dives into the subject of of losing a relationship. From looking back on fond memories and a long history, to the unlikelihood of fixing the current problem, the listener is likely to feels a range of emotions on this track. These lyrics blend perfectly with the soft guitar and simple percussion.

Dahl has been writing and performing music for most of her life. By her teenage years, she was writing and creating her own songs, a skill that shines through in Little Bit Country. As a teen, she moved from her hometown of Black Earth, Wisconsin, to Los Angeles, where she worked with some of the industry's sharpest minds, and was offered a record deal. Instead, she chose to attend college, continuing to write music independently while raising a family.

Now, with Little Bit Country, Dahl is stepping into a new era, backed by some of Nashville's top producers and musicians. This has resulted in a sound that is polished yet authentic, combining the classic instrumentation of country with a sticky pop sensisbilty.

Across its five tracks, Little Bit Country balances themes of heartbreak and self-discovery, telling a story that takes the listener on a journey of emotions.
