Released via Vfib Recordings, the easy flowing track opens with a twangy, melancholy guitar that conjures the experience of aimlessly turning the radio dial and stumbling upon a song that compels you to stop and listen. Delgado's warm, down-to-earth voice spins a tale of isolation, addiction, and deja vu, telling listeners, "I'm sure you've heard this song before." Snippets of a radio announcer speaking in the background dredge up memories of being half-asleep in the car backseat on a long road trip; stuck in a dreamy world where the highway goes on forever.
"This is what the ratings cost you," Delgado sings, in the unflinching tone of a storyteller who won't hold anything back. "You find that you might be lost on the dial." A yearning electric guitar seems to ask, is anyone else out there? Is anyone listening? "Every day you sing the same thing," he croons, repeating the words until they become an echo of themselves.
Delgado says a recurring dream about wandering the Sacramento Business 80 Freeway inspired the feeling in "Stuck On The Radio" of being surrounded by urban sprawl and yet still utterly alone. "Every day felt like that," he remembers, "repeating, deteriorating, like a pop song stuck on a loop."
Aside from being a musician and storyteller, Delgado, who hails from Woodstock, NY, has been described as "part folkie, poet, raconteur & stand-up comic." He performs both with his band Spanish Ghost and in one-man shows, and has released two live albums and one studio album, Wildwood Road (2021), which is defined by "songs of loss & survival, redemption, recovery & love."
In the winter of 2024, Delgado published his book, The Black Socks: a book of stories & poems & other stuff that may or may not have actually happened…, composed during the recording of Wildwood Road. He's currently working on a new studio album, The Valiant Effort of the Heart Against the Perilous Machine, scheduled for release in 2026. Delgado begins his first European tour this summer in Ireland.
