[The following is from the official press release.]
Acclaimed radio personality and award-winning voice actor Sloane Spencer is back with a new concept in podcasting: Sleep with Rock Stars: The Gen X Sleep Podcast. Launching July 15, 2025, this innovative series merges soothing bedtime meditations with storytelling focused on the iconic bands and musicians that defined a generation.
Known for her acclaimed 2010's music podcast Country Fried Rock, Spencer now returns with a show tailored for Gen Xers navigating middle age, sleepless nights, and the chaos of caregiving. "We were tired of being sleep-deprived," Spencer says. "So we made the podcast we needed to finally sleep. Sleep with Rock Stars is what happens when you've helped everyone else and finally take time to help yourself."
Each biweekly episode opens with a brief, guided meditation designed to calm the mind and body. Then, in her signature whispery tone, Spencer gently leads listeners through low-stakes, nostalgic explorations of Gen X music history—from mixtape staples to cult-favorite bands.
After living all over the country and finally rural South Carolina, Spencer found the fun in audio escapism as a remote radio personality across markets in several states, ultimately creating the former syndicated radio show, Country Fried Rock, heard in 157 markets around the world. In 2012, she launched a podcast version of that show, one of the first independent programs to crack the Top 10 in music interview podcasts.
Spencer wanted to share some of the techniques she tried when learning how to fall asleep, so she made a "How to Sleep with Rock Stars" bonus episode available to everyone. This How To podcast highlights research-backed approaches such as repetition, routine, and rest, different types of background sounds, and caffeine, comfort, and consistency.
"I kind of joke about the Gen X stereotype that nobody ever remembers us, but it's a bit true. Most of the sleepcast landscape targets different people, or subjects that are not very interesting. Sleep with Rock Stars combines the best of adult bedtime stories with content we all remember, like why albums ended up with parental warning labels."
The podcast is available for free on all major podcast platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and more. Fans can also join the Sleep with Rock Stars Fan Club for early access, bonus content, and opportunities to request future band episodes.
New episodes drop every other Tuesday, starting July 15, 2025.
