Wrapping together a true-to-self soul and energetic jive, Rah Rah Rabbit has freshly released their debut album with twangy spunk, sure to serve as a get-up n' groove summer soundtrack.
Checking in from Los Angeles, California, Laura "Rabbit" Anne Lacy marries Americana, roots, and psychedelia for a Honky Tonk genre eclectic in Chasin' Rabbits, Catchin' Squirrels.
The thematic work, issued June 27th, 2025, takes a winding drive from heartbreak to humor. Music that doesn't take itself too seriously positions itself with a welcoming wit, and Rah Rah Rabbit simultaneously tackles life's offerings and convenience stores' barterings with equal splendor.
With fierce riffage and commanding harmonica setting the Western scene, "Liquor Store Chicken" follows a freewheelin' woman on her tough choice between a lottery ticket and fried chicken. But that's not the full story. A greater narrative floats beneath the song's organ-enriched soundscape -- a wanderlust approach to the seemingly weighted world of responsibility.
"What It Means" rides a Southern doo-wop sway through a lively wager of navigating the point of it all. Playfully governing fiddle takes the wheel between grit-driven vocals that tell of Rabbit's seasoned musicianship comprising 15 years through LA and the Mojave Desert. "I've been swimming fast / While trying not to think," she sings, pantomiming the song's tale in the tune's gripping music video.
An ode to the album's title itself, "When You Get It" sings to the diluted expectations and observations of an ever glory-chasing culture. Stepping bass leaves room for intermittent guitar solos shining with reverbing colors, while Rabbit's dynamic calls play with tonal range to embody the highs and lows that go unnoticed by the tunnel-visioned eye.
Released by Soggy Anvil Records on January 24th, 2025, as a collaborative community commitment, Back in the Garage - Los Angeles Fire Relief Compilation hosts "When You Get It" as one of 57 tracks directing 100% of profits to MusiCares and the Pasadena Humane Society.
"This Winter," released September 20th, 2024 as the album introductory, flares with cannoned vocals between starts and stops that give the diddle its country gleam. With steam engine-reminiscent percussion, "This Winter" marks a proclamation, wiping one's hands clean of a stale state of being.
Supported by Blackbird Records, Chasin' Rabbits, Catchin' Squirrels succeeds Ghosts, Rah Rah Rabbit's debut EP, ringing in its anniversary through a charitable bundle aiding LA's residents affected by recent fires. A pleasing mix of an admirable community ally and coruscating composition, Rah Rah Rabbit comprises the power of music melodically and morally.
