More Lucky, the fresh yet vintage-sounding new EP from mellow folk rockers The Storm Windows invites listeners to hit the highway with the windows rolled down, primed for summer time. It is set to hit streaming services tomorrow, June 20th, 2025.
Originally from Vermont, the musical trio of brothers Rob Mathews (guitar, vocals) and Don Mathews (upright bass, vocals) and Erik Anderson (drums) got their start in the Greenwich Village folk scene, and have been refining their genre-blending sound ever since. Their new six-track EP draws from their Americana roots, while also combining soul rock influences with tastes of jazz, providing a breezy soundtrack for the highs and lows of a sprawling summer road-trip adventure.
Their May single, "I'm Going to Memphis," offers an upbeat, nostalgic energy that takes listeners on a meandering cross-country route, "from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico" to "between St. Louis and New Orleans." Mathews claims that "there are four reasons you might choose the highway" as a means of escape, then confesses that he's currently "four for four." The contagious excitement of finally making it to the big city is juxtaposed by the quiet beauty of moonlit drives in this catchy introduction to More Lucky.
The titular track, "More Lucky," is an ode to all the missed chances and tough odds in life that sometimes, serendipitously, lead to a real connection. "True love is more lucky than a worn out glove," the singer tells us, before adding, "I know that's true / I spun the wheel and I found you." An undercurrent of mellow guitar builds to a jazz-inspired interlude with a bouncy horn arrangement, a seemingly musical reflection on the fickleness of life.
"Angel (That Heaven Must Of Sent Down)" is a high-energy call to action that urges listeners to let loose, saying, "God gave you wings / Don't waste them on the ground." This buoyant track is full of yearning to be freed from life's burdens and obligations, to take flight and give into one's "wild side." The final track of More Lucky ends on a high note, ideally inspiring listeners to pursue their own freedom on the road of life.
The Storm Windows will be performing in Vermont and Upstate New York this summer, sharing their fresh music with both fans of old and newcomers alike.
