3rd Annual Scheherazade Music Festival in KS Featured Performances by UNO Faculty, Alumni, and Students

The UNO School of Music was well-represented at the 3rd annual Scheherazade Music Festival, held at the idyllic Blue Sage Barn in Manhattan, KS from June 10-12, 2025. UNO's Professor of Flute, Dr. Christine Beard shared the stage with her student Noah Edwards, a senior BM flute performance major, for which their program was entitled "A 9-1-1 Call to the Earth!" Tying into the festival's theme of "Songs of the Earth, Sea, and Sky," Beard and Edwards performed climate change-inspired music for flute with piano and electronics by Jacob TV, Linthicum-Blackhorse, Adrienne Ingles, Herman Beeftink, Egbert Jan Louwerse, and 2 world premiere arrangements by Christian Glascock and Takatsugu Muramatsu. UNO Flute Studio alum Sofia Cormack (BM '21, MM '24) also performed at the festival, showcasing 3 selections by Ian Clarke: Orange Dawn, Touching the Ether, and Deep Blue. They were all joined by Benjamin Havey, an accomplished pianist currently residing in Kansas City.

SMF also featured Dr. Jennifer Townsley, who is joining the UNO School of Music this fall as the SoM's new Instructor of Voice. Townsley, who serves as SMF's Director of Outreach, performed the world premiere of Cindi Hsu's "At the Twilight" for soprano, flute, saxophone, and piano (winner of SMF's 2025 Call for Scores); and two works by Franz Schubert: "Auf dem Strom" for soprano, horn, and piano as well as "Der Hirt auf dem Felsen" for soprano, clarinet and piano.
