Ahead of the full festival this weekend, we look back on hosting the official Great Escape pre-party last Wednesday.

Last Wednesday, the Hard of Hearing team descended eagerly upon The Old Blue Last for an evening of top quality live music, showcasing three buzzy, Brighton based acts set to feature on The Great Escape lineup this year: big long sun, ELLiS·D and CLT DRP. A partnership between Hard of Hearing, TGE and Ticketmaster, the show served as the official pre-party for the Brighton showcase event, and an exclusive first taster of the talent that festival attendees will be privy to on the shorefront later this week. With a beer and camera in tow, we settled into the bustling boozer for a thrilling mid-week musical excursion.
First up, squeezed onto the modestly sized stage were all 7 members of Brighton's big long sun for a chaotic, kaleidoscopic jamboree of gorgeous psych-pop wonderment. Their rich, sun-kissed set thoroughly cleansed our palate for the all-out goth-glam extravagance of the next act ELLiS·D, who pulsated with a tremulous punk decadence that was endlessly captivating and, quite frankly, rock'n'roll as hell. Rounding off the night were three-piece CLT DRP (pronounced Clit Drip for those unaware), who very nearly tore the roof completely off with their set of fervent, high octane electro-punk.
Here's what we captured of the evening as it went down:
