With a playful and lighthearted energy, Alex Kramer sprung into spring on a high note with his latest single, "Mr. Popular."
The melodic indie pop single ruminates on the transitory nature of dating in the present era, describing infatuation and how it can cause a fleeting feeling. The snappy yet resonant drums mesh with the ethereal guitar, and the hazy synths create a catchy, almost dreamlike atmosphere.
Recorded at The Cabin Studios with producer Matty Alger and co-written with Connor Rand, Kramer shamelessly wears the powerful and quirky tune on his sleeve, and paired it with highly likable single art, which appears to be him as a kid. The song draws inspiration from classic bands like The Cars, The Talking Heads, and Weezer, and more.
"This is one of my favorite songs to perform live with my band, and I'm so excited to have this recorded version to share with the world," Kramer states. "I really enjoyed getting to lean into my New Wave/David Byrne/Rick Ocasek proclivities with this."
The journeyman musician has traveled far and wide as a guitarist, touring with artists such as Joss Stone, Jason Derulo, Kira Isabella, Delta Rae, and more. Kramer previously released his debut album, Young Avenue, in 2017 and released a single, "Ordinary Lovers," in 2024. Aside from his solo efforts, he's also released music under the new project Dystopian Book Club with co-conspirator Nicole Boggs, to whom he also performs with in Nicole Boggs and The Reel.
Kramer and his band celebrated at Hubba Hubba Tiki Tonk in Nashville this past Thursday, and are scheduled to play at Bourbon Street Blues & Boogie Bar on April 29th.
