The grit and ferocity just keeps coming from Brooklyn art punk band Tea Eater, who unleashed their new single and music video, "Cecelia," today, March 7th.
Appearing to be an ode to those breakin' hearts and takin' names who you just can't seem to pull away from, "Cecelia" is a gristly banger packed with sass. This spunk-filled grunge anthem precedes the band's upcoming album, I Don't Believe in Bad Luck, set for release on March 28th, 2025.
Following their Valentine's Day release of "Little White Dog (In a Gated Community)," "Cecelia" turns its head toward alt-rock n' roll jive as electric guitar mimics leadwoman Tarra Thiessen's vocals while they bob between spoken word and energetic scream vocals. Charged with a get-up-and-go attitude, the single speaks for the band's versatility, bringing ambiance, punk, alt-rock, and experimental indie to comprise a sound unique to them.
Shot and edited in Joshua Tree by Viviane Black, Tea Eater's music video for "Cecelia" is infused with modern DIY nostalgia, referencing a Y2K campcore aesthetic that matches the sound sublimely. From Thiessen's backyard performance with a giant backdrop domino, to hot tub scenes with a characterized "Cecelia" flirting and drinking wine, the audiovisual paints the lyrics in Tea Eater's eccentric self-branded light: campy, cunty, and weird.

"Cecelia is a classic heartbreaker," Thiessen states. "She is the other woman (or ex-girlfriend) that you can't seem to get away from. People love to talk shit about her, but in reality she's a necessary part in those who vilify her story. Without her, they wouldn't have anyone to talk about or project their own dark parts and patterns onto."
Composed of Thiessen (vocals, guitar), Lindsey Ann Lawless (bass, vocals), Vram Kherlopian (guitar, synth), and Abdon Valdez III (drums), Tea Eater awaits their second LP release in I Don't Believe in Bad Luck, a collection that recontextualizes the messiness of the human experience. Following the story of a hotline psychic sick of everyone, the LP explores self-expression through a fuzzy toned and oft-satirical lens.
Recorded at La Fam Studios and supported by A Diamond Heart Production, the album will have its celebratory release at Alphaville in Brooklyn on Thiessen's birthday, March 28th. Alongside their vinyl release, Tea Eater has reimagined tarot decks, inspired by the sound and story of the new album.
