Judy Blank, the newest addition to the Rounder Records stable of artists, is riding the wave of her latest prehistoric and apocalyptic single, "Dinosaurs."
The Dutch born and bred artist who now calls Nashville home delivers an eclectic sound that is hard to pin down, which works in her favor. Rounder attempts to designate her music as a blend of "classic 1960's girl groups to blue-eyed soul to edgy garage rock." Her endearing sound carries itself across genres, as displayed in "Dinosaurs."
The new single is an ode to the increasing effects of climate change. Blank's distinctive sound and imagery-laden lyrics make the track an innovative warning to listeners. "When I wrote this song," Blank says, "I thought of it as a postcard from the future. I hope it can be a low-key reminder that it's time to change the ending."
Her first release on Rounder Records, Blank now joins the ranks of artists like Billy Strings, Sierra Ferrell, Alison Krauss, Dawes, and numerous other heavy hitters in the Americana and roots world attached to the label.
"If Judy Blank would tell you she grew up in a beach town in Southern California, you'd probably believe her," reads the first line of her bio on her website. Though Blank has adopted an innovative blend of American sounds and has something of a Cali glow to her, she hails from Utrecht in the Netherlands. To record music in the States was always a dream of Blank's, and one she's since achieved in spades, garnering over 14 million Spotify streams alone on her single "Tangled Up in You."
Blank's 2025 tour dates are strewn across both the US and Europe—ranging from shows here in Nashville to across the pond in Manchester, England and much in between.
