The festival featured 50 pianists in 9 concerts… | By ahilt21 on December 10, 2024 | UNO Associate Professor of Piano Dr. Kristín Jónína Taylor completed an artist residency in Iceland where she was an honored guest as part of the Slagharpan syngur: Icelandic Piano Music Festival. The festival featured 50 pianists in 9 concerts with music by 33 composers and is held every 3 years. Dr. Taylor gave a lecture recital, "Þorkell Sigurbjörnsson: An Icon in Icelandic Piano Music" on the solo piano works of Þorkell Sigurbjörnsson at Listaháskóli Íslands (Iceland Academy of the Arts) with performances of "Hans Variations," "Lagstúfur fyrir Vigdísi," and "CHESA." She also gave a performance at Atli Ingólfsson's "...ma la melodia" at Hannesarholt, a museum in downtown Reykjavík. This was then followed with two performances at Salurinn Concert Hall in Kópavogur, with another of Þorkell Sigurbjörnsson's works, "MA KKNOTT," and "Sónata til lífsins" by Mist Þorkelsdóttir.
