Like woozy twilight rays carving false silhouettes in the dusk, Blousey's 'Canela Skin' exudes an aura of after-hours mystery. A track said to have been many months in the making, the debut single from the London based art-rockers overwhelms your senses like an intoxicating, seductive devil on your shoulder, transporting you to an otherworldly liminal space where hedonism at its most salacious beckons you into its shadowy recesses. Releasing the track ahead of their anticipated first headline show at The George Tavern later this month, here Blousey's sound coalesces the visceral, gothic rock spookiness of early Nick Cave with a more nostalgic palette of textures akin to bands like The Doors, peppered with folky instrumentation and intensified with a fresh, kinetic urgency, alongside a healthy dose of impassioned chanting.
Pulsing with a haywire eroticism atop an eerie bed of organ and guitar, lead singer Luca Centro belts with increasing vigour, riled up over 'Canela Skin', the tracks' eponymous object of affection. Speaking in more depth on the track's lyrical themes, the band say that it was written "from the perspective of someone in the throes of deeply unrequited lust". Less innocent readers and listeners may already be familiar with the notoriety of real-life figure 'Canela Skin' - others may need to google it for some clarity (spoiler: she's a Colombian porn star). Later in the track, a delicate and complimentary violin part glides fluently against a frenzied saxophone solo, and these contrasting instrumental embellishments further the tracks' snowballing energy and continue the music's descent into unreserved, unruly fun. If you're looking for a thrill but only have around 3 minutes to spare, Blousey's debut won't fail to raise your pulse, fearlessly inviting you in to uncover the depths of their most lurid obsessions.
