Few genres can contend with the surging popularity of modern country pop.
New names are rising to the forefront left and right, and artists from other genres are now wetting their beaks onto the scene. (i.e. Beyonce and Post Malone) Aiming to serve up a tall order of hanging with the big names like Luke Combs and Zach Bryan is newcomer Blake Smeltz, who brings his earnest songwriting and raspy voice to the ring.
Emerging onto the scene in 2023 with his debut project, Demos From the 434, Smeltz has since released two more singles. This past March saw the release of "Heartbreak Feeling," and his most recent track debuted in November, "You Ain't Whiskey."
Just a couple weeks ago, he dropped a video to accompany the latest single, which was created in association with Charlotte Avenue Entertainment. Alongside Smeltz's emotional lyrics and gravelly vocals is vivid footage of the Nashville skyline, setting the scene for a night of drinking to forget.
No stranger to the gloominess that comes with lost love, Smeltz dives deep in his latest single, "You Ain't Whiskey." Written about the age-old trope of using alcohol to cope with loss, the lyrics recognize that it's only a temporary fix. And similar to a hangover, this love has left the singer hurtin' and off-balance.
The Evington, Virginia, native considers himself profoundly connected with nature, an appreciation which regularly finds its way into his craft. With an adventurous soul and an honest pen, Smeltz is finding his way amidst the ever-evolving world of modern country. He appears unafraid to live boldly, and he hopes to encourage listeners to do the same.
When he's not writing songs, Smeltz enjoys time on the open road, riding motorcycles, and race cars, all of which fuel that burning desire for exploration and trigger his songwriting. In the midst of the ever-saturated hustle and bustle of the music scene, his affinity for nature establishes a sense of stillness and reverence, where he continues to draw creative inspiration. With new musical horizons sure to follow, Smeltz prepares for a new EP release sometime next year.
