Rich in detail, 'folding out' is an exciting sample of the band's first full collection, which releases later this week.

Ahead of the release of their debut EP, 'nightdriving', lobby's new single 'folding out' is an eloquent show of the trio's talents, astutely packing a string of inspired moments into a tight four minutes. The band, formed by Goat Girl's Lottie Pendlebury and leather.head's Toby Evans-Jesra, and enlisting Josh Gormley on drums, have quickly built a reputation for an understatedly absorbing slow-core sound, built around the self-confessed core influences of groups like Duster and Acetone.
'folding out' is full of ideas, fleshing out a simple structure of builds between drums and picked guitar into tiny bursts releasing pressure. A melodic bassline guides the tune along, while Pendlebury and Evans-Jesra trade vocals, the former soft and soothing, the latter artificial and compressed, as if recorded down the telephone. Overlapping trails of violin and saxophone melody subtly weave a richness into the composition as it approaches its first conclusion, from which the bass lifts the tune back up for an expansive, fuzzed-out outro.
This multi-layered composition compliments the lyrical themes the band describe, which explore the layers we build up and unfold in front of the ones we love. We can't wait to hear the full collection, 'nightdriving', which releases later this week.
