Get To Know: Jason Being Sings Of Love, Loss, & Longing On Genre‑Bending New Album 'Glory'

By Lindsey SImpson on October 30, 2024

Blending mellow indie rock, Americana, and folk, singer-songwriter Jason Being creates a sound with broad appeal yet is still uniquely his own.

With his new 7-track album Glory, each song tells a different story with a distinct sound. Recorded at Temple Cabin Studios in Naples, New York, along with fellow songwriter Aaron Lipp, the album greeted listeners on October 11th, 2024.

With an upbeat indie rock feel and light guitar, "Time Machine" is in fact about longing to turn back the clock, wishing to alter and fix the moments that we cannot return to. Being sings "Send me a miracle / Not one I want but one I need / Not something typical / Just take me back like a time machine." Sonically reminiscent of early 2000s indie music like Yo La Tengo, "Time Machine" is an honest and relatable track about regret.

Another notable track, "Blood Lost," Being returns to his time growing up in a small town and the antics that teenagers would get up to when there was not much to do. With a twangy and muddled southern rock feel, he sings about the bitter and nihilistic outlook of the teenagers in his hometown. With mentions of teen pregnancy, vandalism, and senseless violence, he sings, "They lost track of time somewhere / But they'll find their way again."

The live recording of the track "Rivers" is delicate and light with a twinkling keyboard. The intimate folk tune is a message of assurance to Being's family and friends, telling them that life must continue on after he leaves this world. "There will be a piece of my soul that stays," he sings, stating that despite his physical death, he will live on in their memory. His final statement of reassurance: "When your dance is over and done / You will find your place beside me in the sun," accompanied by soft guitar plucking.

The album's closing track, "Bleeding" offers a new take on the single released earlier this year. Longing for fulfillment, Being sings about not finding satisfaction and his frustrations with the people who have let him down. Discouraged and weary, the track ends in a climactic explosion of twangy guitar crashing drums as he sings, "I'm done bleeding in silence / All I do is wait."

Currently residing outside of Rochester, New York in the Finger Lakes, Being draws inspiration from the natural beauty around him. Writing honestly about his emotions and telling stories from his own life, Glory is Being's first album release, along with many single releases and his EP Introspection released in 2021.

Sonically diverse, ranging from groovy soul to indie rock to alternative country, Glory offers something for everyone. Along with an impressive mix of different genres, Being tells a new story on each track. With themes of love, loss, childhood, and mortality, Glory is introspective, honest, and relatable.
