Charlie Vaughan releases colour-rich single 'Timebomb'.

With much loved indie power-popsters Weird Milk now on apparent hiatus, their drummer/lead vocalist Charlie Vaughan has, since the backend of 2022, been steadily laying the foundations of his solo venture. Having tested the waters with an acoustic driven debut EP, 'So Profound' released back in March, he returns with the tailwind of a full ensemble adding extra muscle to his cause, having wasted no time in executing this follow-up.

Paired with the announcement of a new EP, 'Thank You, Joe Fernandez', due 22nd November, new single 'Timebomb' bursts out the blocks in an array of guitar-pop jangle and vibrant pop art colours. Recalling the classics of British 'Beat Invasion', as well as the more recent flag-bearers for 60s nostalgia, like The Lemon Twigs and The Divine Comedy, 'Timebomb' is an explosion of giddying, fuzz-filtered noise, complete with tub-thumping choruses and riffs that grin from ear-from ear.

And as per those classics, there's an innate bittersweetness here too. With a lyric that recounts some of life's harshest tragedies – cars crashing and houses burning down – the music softens the impact with its veil of nostalgia. The song is shot through with a timeless allure. "It's a splurge of memories, TV shows and real life encounters all smashed together in one almost-three minute musical pie", Charlie explains. "We've got responsibilities, to do lists, social media, hopes and dreams, so much to maintain all the time. Sometimes you just want to explode."
