Starting 2021, we will acknowledge what shaped the summer of every Korean music fan worldwide. This is the mission of the Summer Music Awards. We are back this year for more, and this time around it is going to be hot as you've never seen before.
Before we start handing out awards to the best acts of this summer, I would like to inform the readers that I have decided to void NCT 127's nomination in Hot Summer Rap and their consequential win (thereby the second place will be the winner in this award) due to the recent cases filed against Taeil for sexual crimes. I believe that NCT 127's nomination needed to be voided because of the severity of the case and excluding Taeil alone would not serve justice in giving recognition to the ongoing criminal investigation, especially that Taeil's parts have not been cut out from all broadcasts of the recording and performance as of the time writing this.
The Summer Music Awards Organizing Committee would like to apologize for failing to withhold NCT 127's nomination given that the situation leading up to this has been posted in various news organizations since June and the facts were vague at the time. This blog believes that South Korea needs to enact swift criminal justice reforms to ensure harsh punishment for victims of sexual assault, deepfakes, and sexual crimes. South Korean women have been constantly filmed inappropriately, insulted behind closed doors, and abused by the vile heteropatriarchial regimes of Korea, specifically the anti-feminist counterculture movements and the enabling of Yoon Seok-youl's anti-women policies to further sow resentment on gender and sexual lines.
Only a revolution to oust Yoon, the structures behind him and the topple of People Power Party will this misogynistic fascist regime of terror will stop. I will forever stand by feminists and sexual minorities in this shared fight against gender and sexual dehumanization! Thank you for reading, and let's begin.
