Last month, on consecutive weekends, Premiere Networks featured two AT40s over which friend Mark and I have done battle. They're both from periods I recall--for quite different reasons--fondly. All of which provides plenty enough reason to share more of our musings with the world. Weigh in as you see fit about how wrong both of us are.

This is one Mark chose, from the period when I was avidly listening to AT40 but shortly before I started writing 'em down. While there are fifteen songs in common between our Top 20s, we both felt relative antipathy toward two among the other's five faves. My impression (asserted without research) is that we get an exact match, as with "Strange Magic" here, about once every other chart.
Who to give the consensus top spot: Queen or Andrea True? The one with the lowest average position, or the one that crops up on the two lists first? A close call with no wrong answer.

Fast forwarding a decade. I picked this week pretty early on in our explorations--that's the weekend I graduated from college. It's another instance of relatively high agreement about which songs should be in the Top 20--sixteen--but unsurprisingly the orders were fairly different. There's no doubt regarding a collective top tune this time, however. In retrospect, I probably ranked Sade too high; I was down on "Mothers Talk" due to considering the single, rather than the LP, version--the latter would have come close to sniffing my Top 10. (That's the Nu Shooz "I Can't Wait," by the way, not that of Stevie Nicks.)
