UNO Professor of Flute, Dr. Christine Beard performed on a recital entitled "Essential Voices: Music by American Women Composers" at Florida Flute Convention on January 27, 2024 in Orlando FL. Included on the program was "I will not be sad in this world" for alto flute and backtrack by Eve Beglarian; "Thoughts and Prayers" for flute and backtrack by UNO alum Leanna Keith; and Sonata "Emanuel" for piccolo and piano by Lawren Brianna Ware, the final piece for which Beard was joined by Omaha Symphony's pianist Christi Zuniga. The half-recital featuring works excerpted from her larger project, the #flutistactivist initiative, both the Keith and Ware are pieces that tackle the topic of gun violence epidemic in America, moving several members of the audience to tears.

Beard and Zuniga also joined the FFA President, flutist Jeremy Benson, in a performance on the "Flute Basket" recital the same afternoon on which they played the classic showpiece, "Andante and Rondo" for 2 flutes and piano by Doppler, surprising the audience by playing the final movement on piccolos.
