"I can't look at the sea without thinking how you forgot me. So, thanks. You ruined the fucking sea."
Released via cult Portsmouth label Strong Island Recordings (responsible for early releases from Los Bitchos, Ugly and Rosie Alena) and fronted by Daisy Tortuga (formerly of Platypus Complex), Daisy and the Deadheads deliver shambling DIY guitar-jangle seasoned with the harrowed soul of British folk.
Cosy and misfitting as an oversized knitwear; as gently glowing as a flickering candle (yet no less able to ignite fires), debut single 'I Hate The Sea' is as bitterly vindictive as it is endlessly charming. A petty break-up song in the most magnificent sense, one imagines Daisy, guitar in hand, serenading the shorelines of her native Deal – in Kent – her heartbreak softening bit by bit as she throws away her anger to drown in the ocean. And her bandmates by her side, fuzzing out a guitar solo over the splashing breakers, while electric keyboard tinkles in the distance like a flat, round stone, skimming towards the horizon.
