HighSchool's new single 'Colt' is a synth-drenched groover. Dominated by a radar-riff Florian Schneider would have been proud to concoct, the Melbourne-London unit continue their mission to push boundaries, yet maintain a pop sensitivity in the process.
The end result is a blend of Italo-Disco and post-punk à la New Order (not Yard Act...) that will unsurprisingly get you dancing. Two key elements make it so. One is the abrasive, bare-knuckled feel of the opening minute, which summons the industrial tones of bands like Lebanon Hanover and True Widow.
All this then melts away into a Tycho-esque landscape chorus with ambient, reflective vocal effects washing over you in jolts of sensual pleasure. The fusion itself is a big reason why 'Colt' will likely be too fun to leave off the playlist at your local alt disco.
