Single Drunk Female: "An Emotional Journey"

Single Drunk Female, is most definitely a binge-worthy show for all those who like a late night watch. With 10, 20-minute long episodes and the most likeable characters. At the time of watching, it had the rare and elusive "100%" on rotten tomatoes. So of course, it was a must to check out. Over the course of 2 and a half days I have been on an emotional journey with main character Sam played by Sofia Black D'Elia.

Sam is an alcoholic who after an embarrassing public meltdown and being fired from her job, moves back to her quiet hometown. At first glance, this seemed like it would be quite a down and depressing show. However, it was a wonderful and humorous take on the journey from alcoholism to sobriety.

Now if anyone has been close to or lived with an alcoholic, they will know it can be soul destroying. It can be unpredictable, and leads to arguments when you want to give up, they give you some glimmer of hope and play with your emotions. It is just a vicious cycle that can be incredibly hard to break.

But Single drunk female deals with this serious issue in a straightforward way whilst still delivering comedic drama. As an adult, how do you deal with rejection, with heartbreak, or even celebrate without a glass of alcohol in your hand?

Lilly Mae-Harrington is incredible as Felicia, the loud and sassy single mother who works hard but parties even harder. And the relationship between Sam and her overbearing mother – played by Ally Sheedy (who played the moody Allison in the Breakfast Club) is something a lot of people can relate too. Especially anyone who has had to move back in with their parents as an adult.

While everyone may not admit it, we love to watch someone who is a hot mess with their life in tatters, ruin their life even more, before hopefully and eventually get their act together.

What seemed like a show to skip past has turned into one of the must-watch shows of the year.
