MILES KANE WOWS ACADEMY AUDIENCE WITH KILLER SHOW

Indie rocker Miles Kane is back on tour to promote his most recent release, January's Change The Show, and what a show it is!

Opening for Kane in the tour is Edinburgh born singer songwriter Brooke Combe, who found fame on social media with her rendition of the unofficial Scotland football anthem, a cover of the 70s hit 'Yes Sir, I Can Boogie', recorded on acoustic guitar in her bedroom. Now her own music is being produced by members of The Coral, and life is good for the up-and-coming star.  Her short set was well received by the Glasgow crowd, including a cover of The Arctic Monkeys 'Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?' and they would see her again as a guest on the main set later in the evening.

Miles Kane first broke through as lead singer with the band The Rascals, and during a 2007 tour as support to The Arctic Monkeys, he became friends with Alex Turner of the band, and their collaboration The Last Shadow Puppets was born.  Music from this period plus all his solo work would be showcased on this evenings setlist.

Opening with Don't Let It Get You Down, the first release from the new record, the crowd were on a high as soon as the lights went down and the band took to the stage.  The energy from the band was rubbing off on the Glasgow audience from the word go as the set continued.

Rearrange, Coup de Grace, Cry on My Guitar followed on, and with Brooke Combe reintroduced on stage, the band burst into a rousing rendition of the Ike and Tina classic Nutbush City Limits.  Amazing stuff, her voice certainly does the track justice.  Coming of Age and Caroline from the new record, Loaded from the previous album Coup de Grace before the first of two Last Shadow Puppets numbers, Aviation.  Terrific to hear these songs live, Kane has such energy on stage, constantly on the move and just loving the music, although I'm sure the pressure on his cruciate ligaments with the constant knee bends as he lies back to play guitar a la Jimi Hendrix will catch up with him one day!!

A great cover followed of The Beatles 'Don't Let Me Down' which allowed a mass karaoke in the venue before he disappeared off stage before serenading the crowd from one of the private booths in the level above the main standing area with See Ya When I See Ya.  The first act was closed with the second Shadow Puppets track Standing Next to Me.

A two-track encore would end the evening, Inhaler followed by Come Closer which would drain the last drop of energy from the crowd and the band, before they took their bows and left the stage.  It was a great return to form for Kane, the new stuff sounds great live and the older numbers still hit the spot.  He has the energy of a 16 year old as he bounds around the stage and is in great company with the likes of Weller, Gallagher, Marr, Ashcroft, Jones and Albarn in the lists of top UK male performers.  A terrific gig not to be missed.
