Pop singer, songwriter, and composer Sadie Nix is from Brighton, England.

In spite of being "too old" to begin a career in music, crafting lyrically-driven pop music that resonates with others who have had similar experiences is what motivates her.

I'm sure you won't want to miss her discussion with us about her music career and the release of her first song.

What is your real name?

Nichole McCulloch

What's your official Showbiz name?

Sadie Nix

How did you get into music?

I have always been into music since I was little both writing and singing. The first band I was in when I was around 7, with my friend, we called it "Mixed Colours" and we use to dance and sing along to Janet Jackson and En Vogue, funnily enough, we were never signed to a deal.

However, it wasn't until I was 33 that I picked up the guitar for the first time and not until a few latest until I really started to write again.

What field or genre are you into and how would you describe it?

I break the music down into 2 genres music that moves and music that doesn't. And this will be different for everyone. When someone says they don't like for example "country" music, I find it so hard to believe you can write off an entire genre of music.

I want music to make me dance, feel cry get excited about going out and if it does that then it is good music for me. The great thing is those feelings are different for everyone which is the exciting part of the music.

Any models you look up to? With reason(s) why?

There are so many people that are out there doing amazing things but women who are writing producing and owning their images really inspire me. Artists like Carly Pearce, Taylor Swift and Phoebe Bridgers.

They are putting out songs that tell stories that mean something to their fans and themselves. Then looking to the past women like Dolly Parton, Carole King, Blondie, Pattie Smith, Annie Lenox, Madonna, as are women who have paved the way.

What do you look out for in this line of business?

The authenticity that's it for me.

What are some of the challenges you face in your career path?

The biggest challenge is having a full-time job in addition to putting out and marketing music. Unfortunately, independent artists have a hard time generating income in this climate in order to be able to put out their music, it is essential at least for now to be working.

The other thing is that marketing has changed so much. I am terrible at social media and things like micro-content and Instagram marketing strategies takes my time away from creating music.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

I think it has had both a positive and negative impact. On the upside, more people are able to put out amazing music without having to have a deal or afford studio time and that is amazing.

However, there are around 60,000 songs uploaded to Spotify every day, so the competition is higher than ever before, it also has made music more disposable.

The focus is on singles not albums, short songs to fit Tick Tok and the journey of discovering new artists is sometimes more focused on how many social media followers you have not necessarily the quality of music.

Do you have any advice for aspiring songwriters?

Just do it. The biggest thing I have struggled with..still struggle with is trying to write a perfect song and not just writing a song. If you try to write a hit every time you sit down, you will never write.

Write every day, even if it is bad doesn't make sense or you don't want anyone else to hear it. Perfection is not obtainable and thanks god because perfect is boring!!

What is your current project about?

I think this project is reflecting on previous relationships from when I was younger thinking retrospectively on them with a more mature lens.

I won't lie, it isn't the happiest of records, but in many ways, it is freeing because when you are in the middle of these life events where you feel you can't breathe and you will never surface for air, being able to know that it will be ok in the end, allows a different perspective when you are writing.

What are your hobbies?

Funnily enough music, I love going to gigs and listening to new artists. I also love sports both playing and watching!

What do you do aside from this profession?

I run my own business as my full-time job and am a happy mother to 3 cats.

What is one message you would give to your fans?

"It's never too late for now" sorry bad "30 Rock" reference. In all seriousness the message is sound. I sat on my dream of writing and putting on our music for nearly 25 years because I thought I hadn't earned the right to do it or it was too late for me. It took a global pandemic to wake me us, which is crazy. I hope that no matter what your dreams are or desires in life are it doesn't take another global pandemic for you to realise them. Life is too short not to be doing what makes you happy.
