How did you get into what you do (music, modelling, art, dance, etc.?)

I've been making music in various bands for over twenty years or so, but became interested in music and musicians from an early age. I became a Fan of Gary Numan after his first appearance on the now defunct Top of The Pops. His androgynous look and futuristic sound resonated with the adolescent me, so much so my older brother and I demanded that our Father took us to the local barber the next day to get Gary Numan haircuts. I later became a bit obsessed with The Stranglers and the bass player JJ Brunel, hence WDW plays bass.

What field or genre are you into and give a brief description of what your career/profession/ field feels like?

The Numan and JJ influence has bled into the WDW sound i.e. heavy fuzz Bass guitar with 70/80s synth sounds, also taking on board John Foxx era Ultravox and Foxx's early solo work but WDW also has a passion for 60s girls groups like the Ronettes and The Shanghai-las etc, this probably explains why we love The Jesus and MaryChain so much.

These influences can be seen in the WDW sound, very Bass and Synth heavy with Goth and Darkwave undertones but also melodic and mostly with a danceable beat, this comes from our love of Giorgio Moroder and his influence can be found on WDW songs like 'Dead House' for example, we like to call this genre crossover #doomdisco.

Who or what inspires you or motivates you? And why?

Due to having a somewhat 'neurodiverse' brain (I was recently diagnosed with ADHD) motivation can be a problem sometimes and getting projects finished can take some time as well so to most people my goals for the future might seem small but WDW is a way of me letting of some creative steam, I just want more people to hear the music and have a steady stream of gigs coming in, playing in front of increasingly larger numbers, people who come see WDW are usually surprised by WDWs on stage persona because although the music has a dark brooding edge WDW is very engaging in between songs and some people even say funny, WDW also cuts a striking figure in black PVC and high-heeled boots.

What is this new release about?

"Paradise Lost on Leith" is influenced by the Proclaimers song "Sunshine on Leith" the mood of the two songs although are quite different. Paradise Lost on Leith is a snapshot of a day in the working life of WDW. We drive our big green machine north into Scotland full of optimism and as Edinburgh and Leith come into view they are nearly always bathed in sunshine. Unfortunately this sunny disposition doesn't last and we head south again with storm clouds gathering over Leith.

What can your previous and new audiences anticipate from you in the future?

The next project for WDW is to go back to some earlier songs and recordings that were down pre first lockdown. Before lockdown the WDW sound was a bit more stripped back because all we had to hand was a basic drum machine and a Krog Volca keys basic synth, it's only over the lockdowns that we expanded the WDW sound to incorporate the darkwave Synth wave influences due to having time to learn and use home studio technology. So while continuing with this current path it would also be good to revisit these older songs and sounds and release these as 'The lost Volca sessions'.

Gigs are starting to come in now as well, we have one in April at the legendary rock venue 'Trillians' with France post punkers The Scanners and on 15/05/22 a special gig at new bar/venue 'ZEROX' also in Newcastle, this is the WILLIAM DENTON WILDES SUNDAY SERVICE, first of many.
