Prior to his own solo career, Chen has worked with a wide range of musicians to produce songs for other artists. Influences include Robert Glasper, Tom Misch, and many more musicians.

His music career and thoughts on the music business are laid bare in our interview with him.

What is your real name?
Chen Ron.

What's your official Showbiz name?
Chen Ron.

How did you get into music?
I have been playing instruments since I was a child. I learned piano from age 6 and guitar from age 13. I started producing and making beats in high school.

What field or genre are you into and how would you describe it?
I'm really into neo-soul, I would describe it as the perfect combination of jazz, soul, hip hop and RnB. The best of all worlds, the complex musicality of jazz and the amazing rhythms of hip hop and RnB.

What were your first project and the people you worked with and which year?
The first project I made was my debut single "Community" which was released on March 18, 2022. This is the first song out of many songs that will be released this year with different artists.

In this project, I collaborated with Braille Watson, singer-songwriter and rapper from Topeka, Kansas.

Who or what inspires you or motivates you? And why?
I want to make music and influence a lot of people with it. I believe the world really needs more interesting music, and the neo-soul community still expects a lot of growth in the future.

Any models you look up to? With reason(s) why?
Robert Glasper, Anomalie and Tom Misch. When I was growing up, I did not see many producers making their own music with featured artists.

So, when I first started seeing it, it was an eye-opening moment for me. They showed me that it was possible.

What are some of the challenges you face in your career path?
It's not easy to find great singers and rappers, so the big challenge for me is to create a name for myself so I can find great singers and rappers to work with.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
A lot! A big part of my job is on Instagram. On the one hand, it can be argued that it is the waste of time. But I think it's amazing!

We got the opportunity to reach so many people and let the market define our value. I think this is the right way.

Do you have any advice for aspiring songwriters?
Keep making music, Put it out there without overthinking! Sometimes we become perfectionists over our craft. It's a good thing to want your music to be the best it can be.

But if you aren't releasing a song, only because you're a "perfectionist", then you're preventing it from someone in your audience (who might really need this song at that moment). So just be out there and start to release your music to the world!

What is your current project about?
The current project is called "Community" it's a collaboration with Brail Watson, an RnB and Hip-Hop vocalist and rapper from Topeka, Kansas.

The combination of hip-hop elements and rap vocals with
jazz chordal arrangements and flute melodies give this song its unique style and sound.

The song is about the importance of community in our life. Participating in a community bonded by attitudes, values, and goals is an essential ingredient to enjoying a fulfilling life.

What are your hobbies?
Besides music, I love sports. Basketball, Swimming and Volleyball in particular.

What do you do aside from this profession?
I'm a full-time electrical engineer.

What is one message you would give to your fans?
I really appreciate everyone who listens to my music! It means so much to me. thank you so much! Can't wait to share with you all the new music I'm working on.
