Shayla McDaniel Premieres New Groovy Single "Depend On"
United States singer, Shayla McDaniel has finally presented her newest single tagged "Depend On".
The throwback soul tune with a modern twist talks about wishing for someone to rely on in love, business, or friendship connection after being harmed by someone you trust.
"I said to myself, 'I want someone I can depend on, like the kick on the one's and three's.' Then I was like, 'Dang! This needs to be a song.' I just sang the lines to see what melody came out, and it stuck." as said by Shayla.
Shayla's flavorful vocals, pop-rock compositions, and musical talents evoke John Legend fronting an indie rock band, The Roots affiliate Cody Chestnut ("The Seed 2.0"), and a silky Gary Clark Jr. But, in reality, there aren't many singers that sound like Shayla.
Her silky expressive voice, inner craftsmanship, and indie rock perspective are unique. Shayla cites bands such as the band Joseph, Lianne La Havas, Andraé Crouch, and Deep Sea Diver as influences.
Her debut song was published in 2016, her debut EP in 2017, and a follow-up EP in 2019. Shayla McDaniel, a lifetime musician, multi-instrumentalist, and producer, had to be coaxed onto the stage.
Her Knoxville-based singer-musical songwriter's abilities had never been heard by a friend, but she was well-versed in her steely resolve and Type-A attitude.
He advised her to get her music out of the basement, and Shayla did just that, emerging as an award-winning prodigious musician with a passionate, acoustic alt-rock vibe.
The young performer has received several honors in a short period of time. She appeared at the Rhythm N' Blooms Music Festival, the Waynestock Festival, Sunset on Central, the Women in Jazz Jam Festival, and on-air at WUTK 90.3 FM, WDVX 89.9 FM, and WOZO 103.9 FM, among others.
Shayla has appeared in the Top 16 song lists of Knoxville Music Warehouse, been chosen Knoxville's Favorite Band by fans, won multiple Knoxville Music Awards, and received significant award nominations from CityView Magazine and Knoxnews.
Shayla did grow up performing music in church and primary school orchestras, as well as experimenting with various instruments in her parents' basement.
When the bassist went off to college and left the instrument behind, she began to learn bass at church and accompanied the gospel choir.
Shayla has become adept on bass, guitar, drums, keyboard, and production software thanks to a patchwork of classroom teaching and unstructured experiential learning. She performed her debut gig in 2017 and has since been pursuing a professional career.
She now writes, sings, produces, engineers, and plays all of the instruments on her songs, but she hires professional engineers to mix and master them.
McDaniel is now set to emerge as a world-class artist with a distinctly expressive indie-rock aesthetic. He is driven, industrious, and magnificently creative.
She will be performing local and regional gigs with her band in the near future, as well as small solo shows for her ever-growing fan base.
