Demetra Dokos is a Greek-American singer-songwriter whose indie-pop music is evocative of the likes of Alanis Morissette, Jewel, and Fiona Smith. While doing solo acoustic shows in her birthplace of Sycamore, Illinois, her fellow artists dubbed her the "siren singer" because of her eerie appearance.

Her music is often philosophical deep cuts sprinkled with fairy dust to relax the listener due to her background in an immigrant family in a world where old and new frequently collide.

'Trapped in the Past' is a song about being stuck in the past and not being able to move on from it. Everglow is a metaphor for the way our pain continues long after we have put out the fires of our own anguish.

In other words, it's an appeal to our loved ones, our friends, or even ourselves, to be patient while we go through the suffering and loss that is the sum of our existence.

I wrote this song when I was practising for a show and I accidentally put my capo on the 6th instead of the 5th fret. I liked the sound of it and I started strumming the shape of E and C chords and out came this song as it had already been written. It seemed to say what I had always wanted to say about jealousy, insecurity and all the complications that come up with learning to trust someone.
