It's "Hump Day" and I have a lot of nasty units to work in today and honestly, I'm more or less Podcasted out; enough talk about big guns shooting into space ( click HERE ) for the time being.

Instead, I'm going to try and drift off mentally for a bit while I deal with said nastiness with this 'Promises' album by Floating Points, Pharoah Sanders and the London Symphony Orchestra.

How's that for a 'one-two punch' to begin your work day?

Released last year (2021), this was listed among the best albums put out among my own personal circle of music aficionados -- hailed by some as a "late-career masterpiece" and I think I even contemplated purchasing it myself on vinyl at some point, but I have learned that Pharoah Sanders is something to approach with caution so I put it off until I could listen to it ... which is now I guess.

Not strictly classical, jazz or ambient electronica, this one-track, nine-movement album embodies the highest, most etiolated aspects of all three disciplines recorded over a five year period ...

FIVE YEARS!!

The natural affinity between the now 80-year-old Sanders and the 34-year-old Shepherd makes sense. Despite the generational differences, they're united by an impulse toward constant expanse, and both see healing as central to the role of music.

It's some pretty mellow, terrific stuff honestly, but I'm not sure Kelly would have totally dug it so I'm glad I ultimately left it on the shelf.
