Pacific Vibration Unleash New Reggae Vibe Dubbed 'No Captive'
Pacific Vibration is a San Francisco Bay Area-based soulful reggae band. The band performs original, rootsy reggae in the California/Island style, with accents of world, soul, funk, and rock. Kerry Wing, a singer-songwriter and guitarist from California's Santa Cruz Mountains, and Randy Nakamura, a Hawaiian-born singer-songwriter and Ukulele player, lead the band.
Their music always gets the audience up and going. According to Chuck Foster of The Beat Magazine, it is peppy yet conscientious, with "lyrics that are designed to create a change in the world." They play as a full band of 6-8 members, as well as an acoustic duet or trio on occasion. Pacific Vibration released Irie Feeling on their own label, Drala Music, in 2014. For the first two months after its release, three tracks from the ten-track album charted in the Top 10 Reggae Singles on CD Baby. The album has been aired on local and worldwide radio stations. Everyday Angel, one of their songs, was played on the Bay Area's commercial radio station, KFOG 104.5FM, and was included on their Local Scene 11 compilation CD.
Kerry Wing has played Pacific Vibration's music in the United States as well as abroad in India, Europe, Africa, Central America, and South America. Slim's, Yoshi's, The Catalyst, Club Fox, The Biltmore, Reggae In The Park SF, UC Davis' Whole Earth Festival, Monterey Bay Reggae Fest, and Mt Shasta World Music Fest are among the venues and festivals where the band has performed.
Pacific Vibration met and befriended Mikey Dread (reggae singer/producer who has collaborated with The Clash) in 2003. The band went on to open for Mikey Dread at a number of performances before his death.
Steel Pulse, Big Mountain, Anthony B, Fiji, Sizzla, Beenie Man, Long Beach Short Bus (members of Sublime), The Expendables, The Coasters, Eek A Mouse, Luciano, and Burning Spear have all performed with Pacific Vibration.
Pacific Vibration released their new track No Captive. E.N. Young recorded and produced the song (formerly of Tribal Seeds). The song peaked at #84 on the iTunes global rankings for Reggae music purchased.
The band is presently working on their second studio album, "The Other Shore." The late Akae Beka (the vocalist from Midnite), who sang on the new song "Truth" before his death, will appear on the album.
