On this day in 1997, Janet Jackson released 'Together Again' as the second single from 'The Velvet Rope'.
The song was initially written as a ballad in memory of Janet's friend who sadly lost their life to AIDS, and as a tribute to all loved ones who have passed. The meaning of the song shines through in the lyrics, however the sound was developed into an uptempo dance track.
Proceeds from the sale of the 'Together Again' CD single were donated to The American Foundation for AIDS Research.

'Together Again' became Janet's eighth #1 hit on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, as well as her eleventh single to top the Dance Club Songs chart in the US, and was a Top 5 hit internationally. It became one of the best-selling single of Janet's career, with over 6 million sales.
Janet re-recorded numerous remixes of the track, and there was also a music video produced for the 'Jimmy Jam Deeper Remix', in addition to the official video. A 6-track 'Together Again' remix EP is available on all digital platforms with versions which range from pop, dance and R&B.
'Together Again' remains one of Janet's most enduring hits and she continues to perform the song on tour. Following her brother Michael's passing, Janet has dedicated live performances of the song to him.
