North London Artist Biyi Shares His New EP 'The Fix'

Biyi Alo is a new London-based songwriter hip hop artist. He manages to blend serious, passionate, and contemplative images with a raw, gruff, and emotional delivery, having grown up mostly on hip hop, r&b, and being highly influenced by UK musicians' unabashed approach in their songs.

His most recent singles focus on reflections of his closest interpersonal relationships, creating a sense of vulnerability that some have described as "refreshing" and "rare," highlighting the internal battles that many people in this young generation face - with feeling so much and so deeply but being afraid to open up and portray themselves in such light, many of his lyrics show this heavily, and his contradictions, juxtapositions, and imagery are said to be very relatable to ma. All of this being said, Biyi observes how many UK musicians have matured and widened their sound, and he is not afraid to innovate.

Away from music, Biyi is also a professional player for the Rugby team Wasps in the English Premiership. Much of Biyi's writing focuses on his own mental struggles, be that with his identity, relationships with others, or the loss of his father at a young age.

" I've played rugby growing up,  which is not popular with kids who look like me from my city. Rap and art through music are not necessarily synonymous with the "rugby world" but I feel as though firstly - I am a Black boy from London, and music and expressionism are in our blood " he adds.

'The Fix,' which began in early 2021, is an amazing mash-up of several UK rap styles, including the Latin-infused 'Blame Game' and UKG-tinged 'Blame Game.' Biyi's gentler tone is showcased in a recent release earlier this year. Choppa Sound, an aggressive Grime/UK rap hybrid, demonstrated Biyi's capacity to excel in numerous genres, and he is quickly becoming a fully developed UK Rap prospect, with backing from The Independent, GRM Daily, Mixtape Madness, Notion, CLASH, BBC Radio 1 and others.

"This project means a lot to me as I tried to approach it in 3 sound sections and stepped out of my comfort zone. The first 2 songs and production on 'U Got Me' & 'Dream Come Tru' really gives the feeling of wanting someone. I speak about knowing there are differences incompatibility, but ignoring that to say I'd still be down whenever I get the green light.'Lately' & 'Blame Game' start to bring the energy and I loved making them because the songs make you move and the visuals match that energy and production. The final 2 tracks 'Backstreet Boys' & 'Choppa Sound' are different sounds again. The beats really thump and I tapped into a more braggadocious flow and delivery - as if to say, after I went through the first two sections of the storyline, I came out of the other side more sure of myself. On the whole, this EP took me through 3 different phases of my life in the past year and helped me vocalise what I was feeling and I hope that when people listen they can feel it too." - Biyi
