The Heels Dig In To The Holiday Spirit With Latest Single "Cowboy For Christmas"

By Maddie Fry on December 6, 2024

In a genre that's full of men singing worn out songs about drinking and tailgates, there's a fresh trio of women making waves in the modern country pop scene: The Heels.

Their band name holds a double meaning, as it serves as a reference to the trio's flair for glam and a nod to their message of spreading hope and healing through music. Taking a "no holds barred" approach, these women seek to create something new, leading listeners into a new wave of country music -- one that dives deeper than songs about booze and trucks.

Before they met in a cafe in North Vancouver, Bobbi Smith, Brittni Dominelli, and Kyla Rawlins were all in pursuit of solo careers. What united the three was a shared goal: use music to seek healing. Once they joined forces, it was clear their chemistry proved something special.

Just in time to reach holiday playlists, The Heels have delivered a festive original track, "Cowboy For Christmas." Underneath playful lyrics about wishing for a strapping chivalrous country boy for the holidays lies a message about wanting someone to treat you right. Wrapped in brightly colored ribbons of fantasy and glamor, the trio brings their illustrious vocals and rich stringed accompaniment. This track is a perfect blend between classic and modern country sounds, merging subtle touches of familiar Christmas sounds with an original arrangement.

The Heels strutted onto the scene with their 2018 debut album, Love, Heels. Three years later, they returned with their sophomore album, I Am, which features their acclaimed track "Hush Money." This release found its way onto the charts in over 10 countries.

Their latest album, Work of Heart, hit streaming services in March of this year. Out of the seven tracks, one standout is "John-Wayneing," a spirited anthem that'll have you donning your best boots and saddling your proverbial horse in no time, and serves as the group's most streamed song on Spotify.

Now based in Nashville, The Heels and their heavenly harmonies don't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. In addition to their rising acclaim, The Heels have since launched their own record label and publishing houses. The trio also has a UK tour in the works set for 2025.

At the heart of each song in The Heels' catalogue is a message of optimism, as the group hopes that listeners will feel inspired to live full lives and chase their dreams.
