Making music that's easy on the ears and full of tender-hearted soul, indie folk pop songwriter Olivia Reid is starting to make an impression.
The singer-songwriter and producer aims to form human connection in her songs, and her new single, "Quite Simple" -- which premieres today, December 6, 2024 -- does just that.
"Quite Simple" is a bright and delicate folk-pop track, where Reid's vocals are calming and sweet as she sings about an older man who has lived a full life, traveling around the world and studying archaeology. Reid asks in the song, "How'd you manage all that?," with the answer being "quite simple:" "It's really quite long, this life /And everything comes with time," she sings, with the song's message addressing the fears of many young people as they search for wisdom while looking to the future.
As a self-described "chronic collaborator," Reid has worked with many artists across genres. She worked with electronic artist Kidwaste on "Time is Mine," Jae Luna on the R&B track "What You Came Here For," and on "Above the Clouds" with SŸDE, which together have accrued over 20 million streams. She's also cut her teeth on stage opening for a number of artists, including Justin Jesso, Slenderbodies, and Giant Rooks among others.
Along with her musical collaborations, Reid hosted the Spotify podcast series Song Start. Featuring notable artists like Sam Smith, Hayley Williams, and Victoria Monet, Reid fostered discussions about songwriting and the creative process.
Reid's sound blends light indie acoustics with sweeping pop production, creating a sound that is both intimate and expansive. Her first EP, Earth Water, was released in 2021, followed by To Be Named By the People in 2023. Aiming to pull out untapped emotions and detail the human experience, her lyrics are heartfelt and personal with a tender vocal delivery.
Written while traveling in the countryside of Poland, Reid began working on her new EP in the fall of this year. Along with her recent single, "Love Don't Leave," "Quite Simple" will be featured on the upcoming project.
